Roots & Play On BBC: How we are Closing the Gap in Diverse Educational Resources

Did you catch us on BBC Radio Leicester?!

I had the pleasure of going live on BBC Radio Leicester radio last Friday with the lovely Letitia George for her Black Culture show.

BBC Leicester radio presenter Letiita George with founder of Roots & Play Sanchez holding their Caribbean and West African food educational flashcards.

We spoke all things Roots & Play and highlighted the importance of positive representation for children from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds. Our Education system lacks diverse resources but research shows that by having a range of cultural products that represent children in a positive light, the impact on achievement and personal self development is profound.

Why Roots & Play?

Roots & Play Caribbean and West African food flashcards, support in closing the gap in cultural educational toys and resources and can play a massive part in creating a positive environment that not only celebrates different cultures but encourages the children to learn at the same time.

Roots & Play educational toys are designed for all children - not just those from Black or minority backgrounds. Our products aim to foster inclusive, positive play experiences where children from non-marginalised backgrounds can also engage meaningfully with diverse cultures. At the heart of everything we create is the celebration and representation of minority cultures, helping to build understanding, empathy and respect from an early age.

Future Plans

Our goal for 2025 is to bring Roots & Play products into more educational settings. If you work in a school, nursery or support a homeschool group, we’d love to hear from you! Get in touch! to access our special educational pricing and find out how our inclusive resources can support your learning environment.
